Letter to Freiligrath in London, commenting on his exile and glad that he has found "a retreat" from the "power that drove you from your own cherished country". Mentions meeting with Longfellow and discussing the possibility of Bayard translating Freiligrath's work into English and Longfellow's support of the idea. Mentions German American sympathy with "all who have suffered in the cause of their old fatherland" including Dr. Leidensticker of Hanover who is "editor of a daily paper in Philadelphia" and hopes that Freiligrath will come to America. Mentions editing "a country newspaper" and his book "Views A-Foot."
